Union Community Health Center Expands Dental Services to Address Critical Dental Health Care Needs in the Bronx
Bronx, NY — February 24, 2025 – Union Community Health Center (UNION) is proud to announce the expansion and modernization of its dental services, reaffirming its commitment to addressing dental health disparities and ensuring accessible, high-quality care for the Bronx community. With a history of over 115 years serving the Bronx, UNION continues to lead the way in bridging gaps in dental care.
The expansion includes significant upgrades to existing dental sites and the addition of a new location. UNION now offers enhanced services at:
- 2016 Bronxdale Avenue, Bronx, NY 10462 (New Location)
- 2021 Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY 10457 (Expanded and Modernized)
- 260 East 188th Street, Bronx, NY 10458 (Expanded and Modernized)
These facilities are equipped with cutting-edge medical and dental technology to provide exceptional care and address the Bronx’s significant dental provider shortage. Currently, the Bronx has approximately 33 dentists per 100,000 residents, compared to the national average of 60. This shortage often results in appointment wait times exceeding six months for routine dental care.
For decades, UNION has been at the forefront of identifying and addressing the dental health needs of the Bronx. In addition to its expanded facilities, UNION has:
- Launched a Mobile Dental Health Unit to provide on-site dental care for underserved populations, including schools, community events, and other outreach programs.
- Continuously worked to ensure equitable access to dental health care by investing in modern infrastructure and increasing service capacity.
As one of the largest dental practices in the Bronx accepting Medicaid and Medicare, UNION serves over 14,516 dental patients annually. UNION is also a distinguished teaching facility, working alongside New York Medical and Touro Colleges hosting one of the nation’s premier dental residency programs, consistently ranking among the top eight in the country. UNION’s dental residents undergo rigorous training, aligning their expertise with Ivy League educators in the medical field.
The Bronx faces unique challenges in dental health care, with limited provider availability and substantial barriers to access. UNION’s expanded facilities and new location are designed to address these challenges by increasing capacity, improving wait times, and ensuring every resident has access to the care they need.
“At Union Community Health Center, we are deeply committed to the health and well-being of our patients and community,” said Douglas L. York, President and CEO of Union Community Health Center. “This expansion reflects UNION’s ongoing efforts to close the gaps in dental care access and provide state-of-the-art dental and medical services to every resident in the Bronx.”
